THE MILLIE COLLIER MEMORIAL

SCHOLARSHIP FUND

On September 16, 2023, Vail Christian Academy lost a beloved member of our community, Millie Campbell Collier, age 7, in a tragic accident. Millie embodied the Jesus Way, the way of living, being, and loving at VCA. She loved hard, she loved big, and Millie loved her VCA. With the guidance of Millie’s parents, Mitch and Kelley Collier, and the support of numerous families and community members, the Millie Collier Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to make it possible for students who otherwise could not attend VCA due to financial limitations, to attend the school Millie loved so dearly.

SKI DAYS

The Upper Academy Team schedules 4-6 half day ski days throughout the winter months. Ski groups are determined by skill level and social dynamics. This gives students the opportunity to interact with others in different grades. K-5 also has a handful of ski or winter activity days! Designed to encourage play and connection,

Students also participate in the “Learn to Ski” program offered through Vail Resorts. This is a school wide learning opportunity where students have two day ski/snowboard lessons provided by Vail Resorts employees.

“And I have filled him with the spirit of God, with wisdom and understanding and knowledge in all manner of work.”
Exodus 31:3

Upper Academy Electives

UPPER ACADEMY ELECTIVES

Because we are made in the image of our Creator, He gives us the ability and desire to practice creativity. The Upper Academy VCA academic experience is complemented by electives carefully designed to ignite creative fires more than just fulfill a requirement. Teachers bring their unique passions into the classroom and develop deep, caring relationships with students through their shared interests. Upper Academy students have the opportunity to choose their elective classes to further expand their education. These electives change quarterly allowing for different interests to be pursued. Electives offered include, but are not limited to: Chapel Band, Yearbook, Nordic Club, Visual Arts, Student Ambassadors, and more!

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”
Colossians 3:23

CHAPEL

Chapel is a time to gather as a family once a week to worship Jesus and expand on topics and Bible verses that are being taught in class. Each week, different guest speakers, pastors, and leaders from the community share wisdom and encouragement through the Word of God. Once a month, we come together as an entire school to build and strengthen our relationships within our VCA family, celebrate student birthdays, and honor standout students. Parents and family members are invited and encouraged to attend chapel and join in worshipping and giving glory to God.

“Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.”
Psalm 100:2

SERVICE LEARNING PROJECTS

Service at the local, state and national levels is a core part of who we are. We employ a progressive approach to our service learning projects to allow the depth and reach of each mission to develop along with our students. Our sixth grade students spend time here in the local community volunteering with organizations in need right here in Eagle County. Past service projects include serving at the Community Market, Round-Up River Ranch clean-up, and local watershed projects. Our seventh graders travel regionally on a service-based mission trip. Past destinations include Praying Pelicans in New Orleans and Arizona! Our eighth grade students spend the year studying US History, which culminates in a 5 day trip to our nation’s capitol.

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. Galatians 5:123

O2 OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Our Outdoor Education Program, also known as O2, engages our students in new adventures to foster respect for all of Creation and community. Through experiential learning, such as fly fishing and rock climbing, students learn environmental stewardship and confidence in trying new things.

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

Job 12:7-10
