Athletics

VCA champions physical education, being mindful that we are created in the image of God in body and spirit. We emphasize that true competition is a means to learn and practice virtue through victory, defeat and teamwork. Students develop physical potential through setting and accomplishing challenging goals. Students will learn to respect their bodies as sacred  instruments and to develop a healthy self-image and self-confidence.

I can do all things through him who strengthens me. - Philippians 4:13

UPPER ACADEMY SPORTS

VCA partners with St. Clare of Assisi for Upper Academy sport teams. VCA/St. Clare teams are coached by a mix of faculty from both schools, community members, and parent volunteers. As Christians, we do not depend on our strength by our own works of fitness, but we wait on the Lord. He is the one who renews our strength, both in this life and the one to come. School sports treated as an opportunity to uphold VCA’s mission of being a light in the community.

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. - Isaiah 40:31

NORDIC CLUB

Vail Christian Academy’s Nordic Club has been in existence since 2017. Nordic skiing is a life sport with access to the Vail Valley’s six official maintained Nordic courses. The  VCA Nordic Club’s mission is to introduce students to one of Vail Valley’s great winter  sports, while venturing outside together to enjoy God’s creation. Past VCA students have moved onto Nordic ski clubs and high school Nordic teams, some qualifying for state competitions. Students ski from January until  spring break once a week with instruction, games, playful exploration, and a mock biathlon to celebrate the end of the season. Nordic centers across the valley have opened  their doors for our skiers to come use their course; Maloit Park, Vail Nordic Center,  Cordillera Nordic Center, and Arrowhead golf course have graciously allowed us to  come enjoy. Nordic Club is introduced as a club experience for students in 4th and 5th grade and offered as a 2nd and 3rd quarter graded elective for Upper Academy Students.

GIRLS ON THE RUN

Offered in the fall for girls in 3-5th grade, Girls on the Run has fun, evidence-based programs that inspire participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others. Girls on the Run offers programs designed to inspire girls of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength and make meaningful connections with others.

Trained coaches use physical activity and dynamic discussions to build social, emotional and physical skills while encouraging healthy habits for life. In today’s unpredictable world, the strategies learned at Girls on the Run are more important than ever. Girls on the run is a great way for parents to get involved at VCA through volunteer coaching and or running chaperones.
